Who We Are (Experience Dance Theatre (EDT):
We are a not-for-profit dance/theatre company comprised of talented Black/African-American young women and men who share with you through dance, music, and drama their feelings and emotions. We do not exist without you, our audience and synergistically we will speak to you from our hearts. We thank you dearly for your support and vote of confidence.
Our Vision (Mission): The mission of Experience
Dance Theater (EDT) is to create, perform, and teach dance/theater
that reflects the historical experiences and contemporary lives
of people; especially African Americans, and to promote the knowledge
and appreciation of African-derived dance/theater forms.
We make our mission work by staging an annual performance/recital, by collaborating with other performing artists to create and premiere work on African American themes, and by providing African Americans with access to professionally directed dance/theater instruction.
Why We Exist (Purpose): To develop and nurture the innate talents of its members in creative movement and expressions.
Our Key Goals (Major Objectives):
1. To create performing and technical training opportunities for dancers in Charlottesville and surrounding communities.
2. To provide a permanent home based company for the students of its official training school, DanceFit Movement Center.
3. To provide a viable support system and resource outlet for African-American dancers and the artistic community.
4. To provide positive role models for our community.
